Upgrade Instructions

Requirements

You may upgrade to 4.8.14.2 from:

This section will outline upgrading a complete System with the following components:

  1. Corporate (Application Server + SQL Server)
  2. Command
  3. Mobile

Corporate

Corporate server upgrade is manual and requires system knowledge.  This guide will instruct you to upgrade the default Corporate installation with all default installation directories, paths, and databases.

Installation Directory C:/Program Files\Spira Data Corp\Spira
Application Database Spira
Messaging Database SpiraMessaging

You must use OPTION2 if you are running a multi-division configuration: \Spira_Training + \Spira_Production

Upgrading your corporate system involves patching:

Pre-Upgrade:

  1. At Corporate Application Server, stop both Spira services by running : start > run > services.msc
    1. Spira Message Queueing
    2. Spira Message Processor
  2. At SQL server, backup your databases:
    1. Spira
    2. SpiraMessaging

Steps

  1. Download Corporate Upgrade Package, 14.2-Update-Corporate from http://releasenotes.spiradata.com
  2. Extract 14.2-Update-Corporate to a temporary location,
    ie. C:\SOURCE\14.2-Update-Corporate\
    It will contain folders and files:
Patch Corporate Application Files:
  1. Copy
  2. Execute Corporate48142.exe
  3. FFollow on screen instructions
Patch Database(s)
  1. Connect to your MS SQL server using SQL Management Studio (or tool of choice)/li>
  2. If you are upgrading
    1. from 11.x to 14.2, use the 11_to_14 folder
      1. Execute all MPatchXXX against your "SpiraMessaging> database
        1. MPatch004-SpiraMessagingV2Upgrade.sql
        2. MPatch005_SystemContextInQueues.sql
      2. Execute all PatchXXX against your Spira application database
        1. Patch_4811_to_4812.sql
        2. Patch_4811_to_4812_Pre_Patch.sql
        3. Patch_4812_to_4814.sql
        4. Patch_ProductVersion.sql
    2. from 12.x to 14.2, use the 12_to_14 folder
      1. Execute all MPatchXXX on "SpiraMessaging" database:
        1. MPatch005_SystemContextInQueues.sql
      2. Execute all PatchXXX on "Spira" application database:
        1. Patch_4812_to_4814.sql
        2. Patch_ProductVersion.sql

Restart Corporate Application Messaging services:

Command

Pre-Requirements:

  1. Your Command is listed in the diagram as a supported FROM version/li>
  2. YYour Corporate Database has been upgraded to 4.8.14.2

Steps:

  1. Startup Command
  2. Application Database Chooser: Pick the database that corresponds to the upgraded Corporate system
  3. Command checks the Corporate application databse t_ProductVersion and compares to your Command's registry version
  4. Spira.Client.Updater will startup and begin downloading the Spira Command Patch
  5. Click 'Retry' to begin the upgrade process
  6. Follow on screen instructions
  7. You are now upgraded to 4.8.14.2
  8. Restart Spira Command
  9. Login

Send Update for Mobile Units: This step should be completed once.  It will send your mobile units a directive to update.

  1. Startup Command
  2. Open Setup > Company
  3. click "Unlock URL"
  4. Copy/Paste in the Spira provided URL for mobile provided at http://releasenotes.spiradata.com
    ie. http://files.spiradata.com/4.8.14.2/patch/14.2-Update-Mobile.zip
    to the URL text box
  5. click "Verify URL" to ensure the link is valid
  6. click "Send Update"
    1. The URL is inserted into the Spira Application database in, t_ApplicationUpdate
    2. You can use Express Manager to monitor which laptops have received the updates in t_ApplicationUpdateAudit

Mobile

Pre-Requirements

Steps:

  1. Start Spira Express Client
  2. Click "Connect Now"
    You will be notified that your Application will restart when you restart Spira Mobile Application
  3. Run Start > Program Files > Spira Data Corp > Spira Mobile
  4. You will be notified to exit:
    1. Spira Mobile and
    2. Spira Express Client
  5. When the applications are exited, click "Retry" to being the upgrade process
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions
  7. You are now upgraded to 4.8.14.2
  8. Restart Spira.Express.Client + Spira Mobile
